Legacy Geolocation Support Phasing Out

by on May 6, 2020

Geospatial Data in Backendless

In January of this year, we introduced spatial data functionality to Backendless Database. The purpose of this new data type was to replace the existing Geolocation features on the platform. On October 5th, 2020, this transition will be complete.

On October 5th, we will be discontinuing support for the legacy Geolocation system. This includes support for all GeoPoint and geofencing-related APIs. All of the capabilities already exist with the newly added spatial functions.

If you have recently created a Backendless app, you will likely not notice any changes. Older apps, however, will no longer have access to the “Geolocation” tab in Backendless Console after the aforementioned date.

If you have an existing app showing the “Geolocation” tab, you will need to change your code to use the new APIs before October 5th, 2020.

You can read the full documentation for the new spatial data types here.
