Introducing Backendless Pro Community Edition: Free Single-Server Deployment

by on October 16, 2024

We’re excited to announce that Backendless is now even more accessible with the launch of the Community Edition: a free version of the Backendless platform for deployment on a single physical server. This change makes Backendless more accessible than ever, allowing established users who want to lower their overall cost of ownership to deploy quickly and efficiently. Users can set up Backendless on their server for free with the Community Edition, providing an economical way to get started with all core features at no cost.

With the Community Edition, users can unlock the core functionality of our platform – everything from backend services and frontend support to Custom Logic – absolutely free. The only exceptions are FlowRunner, Visualizations, and Dashboards, which can be licensed separately. The only requirement for using the Community Edition is that all components must run on the same physical server. Of course, Backendless runs seamlessly in Docker or Kubernetes, providing flexibility and ease of deployment.

Lowering the Barrier to Entry

By offering a free version of our platform, we’re making Backendless more open and accessible to a broader audience. We want to empower developers and organizations at any stage to leverage the power of Backendless without worrying about financial barriers. Whether you’re an established business looking to lower operational costs or evaluate the benefits of a self-hosted environment, the Community Edition provides a robust foundation to deploy and build efficiently.

Who Single-Server Deployments Are For

The single-server deployment option is perfect for those looking to explore the Backendless platform in a cost-effective way, or for projects that don’t require the scale of a multi-server setup. It’s ideal for small businesses, proof-of-concept projects, or independent developers who want a powerful, self-hosted backend without the complexity or cost of a large-scale deployment. With the Community Edition, you get a fully-featured development environment that includes all core functionality. Some advanced features, like FlowRunner, Visualizations, and Dashboards, are available as optional add-ons, allowing you to tailor the setup to your needs.

Easy Migration to Pro

When you are ready for greater control and customization, Backendless makes it easy to migrate your applications from the Cloud version to a Pro installation. The Community Edition provides a smooth on-ramp to the full capabilities of Backendless Pro, with straightforward migration paths that allow you to take what you’ve built and easily transition to more robust infrastructure. We designed this version to grow with you—start small, scale big, without ever needing to start over.

Support and Upgrades

The Community Edition provides the core of Backendless at no cost, but it’s important to note that Support and Upgrades are not automatically included. We offer different packages to meet your needs: a Support package for those who need access to our team of experts, an Upgrades package to ensure you always have the latest and greatest features and a bundle that includes both support and upgrades for comprehensive peace of mind. These options let you choose the level of assistance and innovation that fits your needs while keeping the core platform free.
