Use Case

Document Management

With Backendless, you can rely on optimized storage space management, security integrated with your users, user groups, and roles, have tighter control on regulatory compliance in regards to document-at-rest encryption. Our system provides mechanisms for multi-user collaboration and cross-platform APIs to work with your documents. Read on to learn about all of the benefits of the Backendless document management system.

Document Storage APIs

The Problem:
In today’s business landscape, documents need to be available anytime, anywhere. Whether you’re building an application for internal document and file sharing within your organization or looking to build the next Dropbox, you need to be able to integrate a file management system that is easy to use with maximum functionality.

The Solution:
Backendless has a powerful file management system that makes storing, editing, and sharing documents a breeze. Through our Files API and Backendless Console, we give you the ability to access all basic file operations such as upload, download, copy, move, delete, and rename. Document upload functionality is available for all major platforms through our SDKs, as well as REST. In the Console, you can manage your files in a scalable, secure, and replicated system that’s as easy to use as the file explorer on your computer.

Document Security

The Problem:
Having an easy-to-use document management platform is only as valuable as the security that accompanies it. If it’s too easy for an unauthorized user to modify, move, or delete a file, then the system is of no value. Administrators need to be able to easily manage which users can see which files, which users can edit files, which users can reorganize folders, and so on.

The Solution:
The Backendless team prioritizes security in every development decision we make. Of course, this applies to our document management system as well. Backendless provides a graphical user interface for managing security within your backend, including document security. You can set security permissions based on specific users, user groups, or user roles. These permissions can be operation-based, meaning that some users can have the ability to read a file while others can write. You can even set document permissions to be inherited from the folder in which the document resides. With Backendless Pro, you have complete control over the file system, allowing you to maintain regulatory compliance.

Graphical Management

The Problem:
You need a document management system that is both easy to understand and easy to manage, regardless of the user’s technical expertise. A document management system should not be limited to only high-level technical users; you need administrators at all levels to be able to efficiently manage your files and documents while still maintaining a strong security foundation.

The Solution:
Backendless document management is designed with non-technical users in mind. Backendless gives your users the ability to edit documents and makes all management functions (upload, edit, download, move, copy, and delete) available right in the browser. The system also provides full support for archiving documents, including the ability to zip and unzip files without extracting or downloading to your local drive. Our graphical security management interface, which can be easily accessed through a simple web browser, allows technical and non-technical administrators alike to quickly manage security settings.
